Introduction to Bergshav Eiendom
Bergshav Eiendom consolidates the group’s ownership and activities within real estate and tourism. The three main areas are (i) commercial, residential and charitable development in the Hasseldalen area in Grimstad, (ii) tourism and (iii) investments in syndicated real estate projects.
The head office of Bergshav is beautifully situated at the entrance to Vikkilen in Hasseldalen, about 500 meters from the centre of Grimstad. The area of Hasseldalen has long maritime traditions, and is today a historic site.
The first sailing ship was built in Hasseldalen in 1842. Over thext 50 years, numerous ships were successfully built at the yard.
In 1848, Morten Smith Petersen purchased the Hasseldalen shipyard area and built sailing ships with great successes. Simultaneously, he built up his own fleet of ships. Morten Smith Petersen also served as a member of the Norwegian Parliament, and he was the Mayor of the city of Grimstad for several periods from 1850-1868. His son Fredrik took over at his father’s death in 1872. Fredrik tried to build iron ships in Hasselsalen in the 1890s, but the enterprise was not economically sustainable.
The most notable heritage after Morten Smith Petersen is Det Norske Veritas, whereof he was one of two co-founders in 1864.
In the beginning of the 2oth century, the shipbuilding activities turned into gigs and barges, yachts and lifeboats. The firm Nor Safe took over and continued the life boat production. Bergshav AS bought the property in 1990, and turned the area into office premises, as well as a maritime culture centre.
The current Bergshav owner has also developed a Museum covering the historic shipbuilding activities in Hasseldalen. In addition, Aust-Agder Maritime Museum is under construction in the area, displaying local Maritime traditions.
Hasseldalen Brygge boasts proximity to most; within a radius of 5oo meters you will find Grimstad centre, bus connection, beach and nature area. The distance is also short to kindergartens, primary and secondary school. The local high school and university is located 2-3 kilometres from Hasseldalen. In short you will reach most daily destinations within walking and cycling distance from home.
Hasseldalen Brygge is an apartment project, which fully developed will consist of approximately 70 apartments in ten buildings of various sizes, located along the quayside.
The first stage comprises two buildings, with seven and six apartments respectively. The apartments vary in size from 77 to 175 m2, of which the majority will be around 100 m2. All apartments have mooring facilities for private yachts from 10-50 ft.
